60 Second Activist Recap of Stimulus Opposition
Last week, Congress passed one of the largest spending bills in American history, which will saddle American taxpayers with nearly $1 trillion in debt. However, it did not do so without the criticism and outcry from millions of Americans across the nation. Thanks to you and your activism here on 60 Second Activist, 17,164 faxes were sent to Congress demanding that they vote against the Stimulus package.
While the spending bill eventually passed, Americans were able to petition Congress and inform them of the dangers the stimulus bill contained.
However, this is just the beginning of the fight. The stimulus bill may have passed at the national level, but citizen vigilance is necessary at the state and local level to ensure the stimulus money is spent wisely and waste is minimized.
What will this take? Thousands of messages to governors and state congressmen telling them they have a duty to the American public to protect taxpayer money from misuse and fraud. While Congress went against the voices of millions of American citizens to pass the bill, they will be forced to listen to those voices when spending the money locally.
It is crucial they remain active and attentive to how this money is spent. If it is used wisely, we will be able to limit the stimulus' damage to the national economy.
If you haven't already, sign up today to take an active role in protecting your money, and the money of all Americans, from government waste!
