What's Happening with Conservatives and the GOP

1.  Senator Chambliss credits Governor Sarah Palin for landslide victory.

With 97% of the precincts reporting in Georgia, the results were:

Saxby Chambliss            1,220,873        57.4%
Jim Martin                       905,645            42.6%

All of the polls up to Election Day showed Chambliss with a slight lead but with a chance for Martin to win.  Instead, Chambliss was re-elected by about 315,000 votes--almost a 15% margin of victory.

Chambliss credits Palin, who campaigned throughout the state the day before the election, with giving him that significant boost.

"I can't overstate the impact she had down here," Chambliss said.  "When she walks in a room, folks just explode.  And they really did pack the house everywhere we went.  She's a dynamic lady, a great administrator, and I think she's got a great future in the Republican Party."

Chambliss said Palin "was dynamite.  And it really did allow us to peak and get our base fired up."

The Senator also thanked John McCain, Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, and Rudy Giuliani, who campaigned for him.

2.  Gallup and Zogby polls show Palin is the frontrunner for 2012 presidential nomination.

Two thirds of all Republicans, and 73% of conservative Republicans, would like to see Governor Sarah Palin run for President in 2012, according to a Gallup Poll conducted November 5-16.

Mike Huckabee was second among conservatives at 65%, with Mitt Romney right behind at 64%.

Romney was the top choice among moderate and liberal Republicans with 59%, topping Rudy Giuliani, who drew support from 50%.

The poll included General David Petraeus, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, current Florida Governor Charlie Crist, and South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham, but did not include John McCain, Fred Thompson, Tommy Thompson, Ron Paul, Tom Tancredo, or Duncan Hunter.

The complete results are:
