What's happening with Christian Values
1. The respected Heritage Foundation verifies that "Obamacare forces you to fund abortions."
Representatives of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops have written to all Senators to inform them that none of the health care bills, including the new Senate Finance Committee bill, bar the "use of federal dollars for abortion" or maintain "current conscience laws" protecting the rights of medical personnel who are opposed to abortion to refuse to participate in the procedure.
"These deficiencies must be corrected," the bishops warned.
When Obamacare was being considered in three House committees and two Senate committees, Heritage recounted how conservatives introduced amendments in all five committees that would have specifically prohibited federal funds from being used to cover abortion. The liberals voted down all of the amendments.
Even worse, the legislative language promoted by the White House is an amendment by Congresswoman Lois Capps, who has a 100% pro-abortion voting record with the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL).
Heritage states this amendment would "allow for federal money to subsidize abortions in private plans and mandate federal funding for abortions in the public option."
This is confirmed by the independent website FactCheck.org.
In reply, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs claimed, "[T]here's a law that precludes the use of federal funds for abortion that isn't going to be changed in these health care bills."
But there is no such federal law.
Rather, theres the Hyde Amendment, which is an annual rider to appropriations bills for the Department of Health and Human Resources to prohibit Medicaid from paying for abortions (except for rape, incest, and to save the life of the mother).
"The Hyde Amendment would do nothing to stop Obamacare from funding abortions and all the versions of Obamacare passed by Congressional committees so far do exactly that," Heritage states.
In an analysis, the Associated Press states flatly, "The proposed legislation would permit government-sponsored health plans, open to NON-Medicaid patients, to cover abortions."
Not only is the Obama Administration using its proposal for government-run health care to greatly expand abortion in the U.S. at taxpayer expense, it is being dishonest about it.
2. CNSNews.com reports that President Obama's nominee to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Chai Feldblum, has argued that homosexual sex is "morally good" and that government should foster all types of domestic partnerships.
If confirmed, Feldblum would become one of five commissioners on the EEOC, which enforces federal equal opportunity laws based on its interpretation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Equal Pay Act, and other federal laws.
She previously was a law clerk for Supreme Court Justice Harry Blackman, the author of the Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion.
CNS News states that Feldblum's 2005 paper, "Gay is Good: The Moral Case for Marriage Equality and More" was published in the Yale Journal of Law & Feminism, volume 17.1, and begins on page 139.
