What's happening with Christian Values

1.  President Obama celebrated Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transsexual (LGBT) Pride Month by hosting a special White House ceremony.

Obama criticized the "worn arguments" of those who believe in traditional marriage and pledged to change the "old attitudes" of those who do not accept homosexuality.

The Baptist Press reported that the President received his loudest applause when he reiterated his opposition to the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which gives states the option of not recognizing homosexual marriages in other states.

Some homosexual leaders have been critical of Obama for not immediately abolishing the "don't ask, don't tell" policy so that persons with same-sex attractions could openly serve in the military.  The President sought to reassure them that this will eventually be done.

"We've been in office six months now. I suspect that by the time this administration is over, I think you guys will have pretty good feelings about the Obama administration," he said.

Obama previously nixed a White House event for the National Day of Prayer, which had been observed under the Bush Administration.

2.  Evidence is mounting to indicate that Judge Sonia Sotomayor holds much more militant views supporting abortion rights than does Justice David Souter.

LifeNews.com states that Cesar Perales, President of Latino Justice, formerly known as the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund (PRLDEF), verified that, while Sotomayor did not participate in the legal briefs of the group, she did "set policy" while serving on its board of directors from 1980 to 1982.

Chairmaine Yoest, President of Americans United for Life (AUL), said those polices were "more extreme than those of Justice Souter, who joined with the court's majority to uphold restrictions" on abortion that PRLDEF wanted struck down.

Yoest said PRLDEF wanted to "eliminate most or all state and federal abortion regulations while requiring state and federal funding of abortion."

She said the PRLDEF's legal briefs "are packed with the kind of extreme rhetoric more typical of left-wing blogs than of serious legal documents."

Clarke Forsythe, the senior legal counsel for AUL, stated, "Now we know why President Obama said that Judge Sotomayor shared his view of the Constitution and why the White House reassured pro-abortion organizations."

3.  The Supreme Court has approved a ban on Bible clubs in schools.

The Associated Press reports that the high court declined to stop the Kent School District in Washington state from blocking a group of Christian students from forming a Bible club at Kentridge High School.

Nate Kellum, senior counsel with the Alliance Defense Fund, said, "This result effectively eliminates Christians' right to associate as a high school club."
