Viguerie: Government Needs a Pork-Free Diet
An Excerpt from Richard Viguerie's Conservatives Betrayed:
We cannot look to Democrats and liberals for a solution to runaway government. Unfortunately, we have also seen—in the years since 2000—that we cannot look to the Republicans, either, for a solution to runaway government. The only times we have made any progress against the growth of Big Government have been under divided government:

A Test of Representation
One of the most glorified mantras of the American Revolution is "No Taxation Without Representation." Now, more than 200 years after the War for Independence, are Americans still represented by their Congressmen?
A test of this representation is looming as Obama and Congress look to give more than $20 billion in additional loans to American automakers.

Some Governors Weigh Rejecting Parts of Stimulus Money
Some governors are looking to reject parts of stimulus cash headed to their states because of federal requirements for accepting the money.
This weekend on NBC's "Meet the Press," Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal said he would reject $100 million in stimulus money for state unemployment funding because of what he perceived to be burdensome federal regulations. "It requires us to make a permanent change in our law," says Jindal.

Mileage Tax, GPS Tracking May be Future for U.S. Drivers
U.S. drivers may soon be taxed by mileage instead of by gasoline consumption, says Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.
"We should look at the vehicular miles program where people are actually clocked on the number of miles that they traveled," LaHood said in an interview with the Associated Press.

'President Obama, Are You Listening?'
Wow. That's all I really have to say after listening to CNBC's Rick Santelli go off on Obama's mortgage plan.
"The government is promoting bad behavior," says Santelli, standing on the floor of the CME Group in Chicago. "This is America! How many of you people want to pay for your neighbor's mortgage?"
"President Obama, are you listening?" Santelli asks.
Santelli's spirited sermon was met with the enthusiastic cheers of nearby traders. Others joined in, mocking Obama's mortgage plan, saying they should stop paying their mortgages because 'it's a moral hazard.'
Opposition Grows to American Automakers' Request for More Government Aid
Two U.S. auto manufacturers are expected to return to Washington to request more than $20 billion in additional taxpayer-backed loans in hopes of restructuring their companies into profitable and sustainable enterprises.
Chrysler and General Motors presented their plans after yesterday's deadline for compiling a restructuring report—a contingency in accepting government loans approved by the Bush administration last December. GM, who is requesting an additional $16.6 billion in loans, says it may run out of cash as early as next month if it does not receive the loans.

60 Second Activist Recap of Stimulus Opposition
Last week, Congress passed one of the largest spending bills in American history, which will saddle American taxpayers with nearly $1 trillion in debt. However, it did not do so without the criticism and outcry from millions of Americans across the nation. Thanks to you and your activism here on 60 Second Activist, 17,164 faxes were sent to Congress demanding that they vote against the Stimulus package.
While the spending bill eventually passed, Americans were able to petition Congress and inform them of the dangers the stimulus bill contained.

Is This Recession the Worst One Yet?
Is this recession the worst one since the Great Depression? It's a good question, with lots of implications for policy. In today's politics, where leaders have to sell policy projects on fear instead of merit, it's hard to separate real concern from the fear mongering. University of Michigan Economist Dr. Mark J. Perry has addressed this topic a few times on his blog Carpe Diem (http://mjperry.blogspot.com/). Below are four entries that relate to the recession and how it ranks among all the others:

Democrats: Pay As I Say, Not As I Do…Or Don't
Being a Democrat and being a hypocrite go hand-in-hand. They'll fight you tooth and nail for tax money to throw at public schools, block voucher programs, and fight parents on school choice. Then, they'll send their kids to the most expensive private school in the area—such as Obama. Or, they'll work for more expensive, "green" regulations for cars while jet setting across the U.S. on private planes.
But there are fewer things more repulsive than a Democrat's willingness to increase taxes, and their refusal to pay those taxes.
